Fellowship of the Book
10 STUDENTS ENROLLED
Do you love adventures? Have you ever gotten so drawn into a fantasy world that you have forgotten how the so-called “real one” operates? How often have you daydreamed about meeting your favorite characters?
If any of these questions applied to you, then you will fit right in as we study J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and its prequel, The Hobbit. During class, we will engage in meaningful discussion, participate in thought-provoking simulations and activities, and study related concepts. During the week, students will study assigned readings and hone their prose and creative writing skills. Throughout the semester, we will question why The Lord of the Rings is the best selling novel ever written (with over 150 million copies sold) and decide what makes it a classic. We will also draw parallels between the experiences of Frodo and Bilbo with our own journey through scholar phase and life.
In this class, we will unlock the ability of fiction to change lives and create stronger, smarter and kinder people who are better equipped to fill their mission in the world- “real” or otherwise.
